Flower Festival
Funchal, Portugal
3 Sep - 27 Sep
With the inebriating flowers from Madeira as protagonists, the Flower Festival is an unforgettable experience for those who visit Funchal at this time. Its colours paint the beautiful landscapes and the streets and clothes are filled in a joyful parade where the arrival of the spring is celebrated.

Associating the purity of the children with the delicacy of the flowers, on Saturday takes place the Children's Parade, where hundreds of children march to the Praça do Município and deposit a flower. This is how the "Wall of Hope" is built, and, at the end, pigeons are set free as a symbolic gesture that appeal to the peace in the world. But Sunday is the highlight of this event. A huge and creative procession marches through downtown Funchal, with allegoric cars magnificently decorated with flowers. Dancers dressed to the occasion, also covered with flowers, complete this unforgettable spectacle, filling the city with perfumes, colours, music and lots of joy.

In addition to the main parades, the agenda is extensive. Magnificent floral carpets decorate the streets of the city and the Flower Show allows local producers to show the best of the island, with the best flowers being evaluated and awarded by a jury. There are several thematic workshops for those who want to have fun learning, and there are shows of crafts and regional gastronomy that allow you to know the delights of the island. You can also watch various shows, classical concerts and performances by folk groups, among other animations that promise memorable days on the Flowery Island!
