White Nights Festival
St. Petersburg, Russia
23 May - 29 Jul
The White Nights Festival is an ode to the magical atmosphere that sits in St. Petersburg during the summer months, when there is a phenomenon known as "white nights" or "midnight sun" in which the sun hardly hides on the horizon. Concerts and performances pay homage to the city during two months in a truly poetic atmosphere.

The natural spectacle already acclaimed in Russian literature, music and poetry is the protagonist of this international arts festival. The internationally renowned Mariinsky Theatre hosts the "Stars of the White Nights," which consists of a series of acts of Russian opera and ballet, considered one of the bests in the world - tickets usually run out a few weeks in advance, so make sure you book in advance! Several cultural and entertainment events take over St. Petersburg these past few months and the Palace Square hosts international music stars, where Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones and The Scorpions, among others, have recently performed.

Several theatrical performances fill the streets with colour and nostalgia with dressed actors representing historical scenes from the time of Peter the Great and Catherine the Great accompanied by parades of old carriages. In June, the festival's most famous event, the Scarlet Sails, celebrates the Graduates' Day and takes place on the weekend closest to the shortest day of the year. It consists of a magnificent pyrotechnic spectacle on the river Neva, with concerts, the passage of a majestic boat with red sails at the sound of an epic soundtrack and with fireworks that leaves no one indifferent. Experience this unique event and make the most of these long and magical days in the Cultural Capital of Russia!
